Piano and Violin Lessons

With 10 years’ teaching experience, the most important thing for me is that my students enjoy learning and playing. I therefore tailor my teaching style to every student.

I teach in a holistic way, ensuring my students explore a range of repertoire with a firm grounding in theory and an understanding of what they are playing.

I am experienced at preparing students for Trinity and ABRSM exams, although I am also happy to support students who wish to progress on their instruments without sitting formal exams.

From a family of musicians, I have been very lucky to grow up surrounded by music. I took up formal piano tuition with Maggie Grimsdell aged 4, and later began the violin at age 7, going on to study with Adrian Davies and Helen Davies.

Lessons are charged at:

  • 30 mins - £22.50

  • 45 mins - £33.75

  • 60 mins - £45

with 10 lessons per term

Other Lessons

Music theory, musicianship, and aural lessons are also available in preparation for Trinity or ABRSM exams.

Lessons are charged at £45/hour.

Accompanist

I am available as an accompanist for exams and other performances.

I love working with performers of all ages and levels, and accompany in a sympathetic and sensitive way.

Testimonials

  • My teenage daughter was ready to give up the violin after Covid but Shane ignited a spark that inspired her to persist and flourish. Shane is so gentle and kind and instills a quiet confidence in their pupils. In turn, my daughter trusted her and felt safe to make mistakes and learn from them.

  • Shane has taught my children the piano for a number of years. They’re an absolutely fantastic teacher, brilliant musician in their own right and keeps the kids motivated, lessons engaging, well-paced and most importantly lots of fun!

  • Our twin daughters have been taught piano by Shane for a year now. Our daughters are very different personality-wise and Shane has managed to inspire them both, which is no mean feat! They not only enjoy the lessons but voluntarily practise to make progress for the next lesson. We think this is because Shane focusses on enjoying the musicality of playing the piano vs just learning pieces of music. We have recommended Shane to our friends
