Piano and violin lessons
With 7 years’ teaching experience, the most important thing for me is that my students enjoy learning and playing. I therefore tailor my teaching style to every student.
I teach in a holistic way, ensuring my students explore a range of repertoire with a firm grounding in theory and an understanding of what they are playing.
I am experienced at preparing students for Trinity and ABRSM exams, although I am also happy to support students who wish to progress on their instruments without sitting formal exams.
From a family of musicians, I have been very lucky to grow up surrounded by music. I took up formal piano tuition with Maggie Grimsdell aged 4, and later began the violin at age 7, going on to study with Adrian Davies and Helen Davies. I achieved Grade 8 piano, violin and clarinet with distinction by age 13 and now play the piano and violin to diploma level.
Lessons are charged at £50/hour.

TESTIMONIALS
Shane has taught my children the piano for a number of years. They're an absolutely fantastic teacher, brilliant musician in their own right and keeps the kids motivated, lessons engaging, well-paced and most importantly lots of fun! - parent
Our twin daughters have been taught the piano by Shane for a year now. Our daughters are very different personality-wise and Shane has managed to inspire them both, which is no mean feat! They not only enjoy the lessons but voluntarily practise to make progress for the next lesson. We think this is because Shane focusses on enjoying the musicality of playing the piano vs just learning pieces of music. We have recommended Shane to our friends - parent
I cannot get over how quickly my boys (aged 10 & 13) have picked up the piano under Shane’s expert guidance. Every lesson is a fun experience for them and they say they can’t believe how speedily the time goes while they’re there. Shane has been very flexible and accommodating which is great when it comes to anything to do with kids. I would thoroughly recommend booking your children lessons with Shane. - parent
Shane is a loving, caring person who teaches you exciting piano skills - student, age 7
If you've got a question Shane will give you the answer you need, and best of all they're always smiley! - student, age 9
I have really improved my piano since starting lessons with Shane. Every lesson has been enjoyable and so much fun. - student, age 10
Shane knows the piano really really well and is such a good teacher. I have enjoyed every lesson so far. - student, age 13
I am a mature piano student. Shane has been teaching me for 3 terms now and I love learning with them. My background was that I learnt piano briefly, just to Grade One at school but never enjoyed lessons I so gave up back then. Coming back to learning I felt apprehensive, however Shane is such a kind, patient and supportive teacher and has a light and encouraging approach to learning, and now I find playing really joyful. They have lots of interesting musical knowledge and insights which make learning fun. Highly recommended. - adult student
